Inquiry
I am currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Law at the University of Ottawa. My research examines how Bilateral Labour Agreements mediate the intersection of labour rights, human rights, and migrant protections within transnational labour governance, engaging the tensions that emerge between diplomatic agendas and the migrant workers experience in transnational contexts.
Education
I hold a Bachelor of Arts with honours in Linguistics and an LL.B from the University of Benin, Nigeria, and an LL.M in International Legal Studies from the American University Washington College of Law, securing numerous awards and scholarships along the way.
Practice
My legal career spans both litigation and advisory practice. I have appeared before superior courts of record in Nigeria, including the Federal High Court, the Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court. I have also engaged with complex issues in international and UN administrative law during my time at the General Legal Division of the Office of Legal Affairs, United Nations Headquarters in New York.
Collaboration
In the research context, I served both as a researcher and as the research coordinator for the Canadian division of the VULNER Research Team, part of a broader EU Horizon 2020 research consortium involving partners from Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. The project investigated how vulnerability is conceptualized and operationalized in Canada's legal and policy frameworks concerning migrants and individuals seeking protection.
Building on this, I am currently collaborating with the University of Ottawa Research Chair on Migrant Protection and International Law on three integrated research streams. These streams bridge disciplinary silos to explore how Canada's domestic and international policies impact a wide range of migrant populations, including temporary workers, international students, non-status migrants, asylum seekers, and refugees.
Beyond the academy
Committed to advancing legal knowledge beyond the academy, I am building the International Law Project, making international law accessible and engaging through creative and interactive learning tools.
